Biography

Prof. Dr. Md. Ruhul Furkan Siddique, Ph.D.

Public Health, Health Systems and Policy Specialist


Prof. Dr. Md. Ruhul Furkan Siddique is a public health professional, physician, academic, researcher, and former senior government health official with around 35 years of experience in Bangladesh’s health sector. He currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Anwer Khan Model University and previously served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Public Health and Informatics at Jahangirnagar University. He also served as Director (Finance) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).


Dr. Siddique holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a specialization in Medical Anthropology, an M.Phil. in Anthropology, an M.Phil. in Preventive and Social Medicine, an MPH in Health Education and Promotion, and an MBBS degree. His professional expertise covers public health management, health-sector administration, research, program coordination, monitoring and evaluation, health policy, feasibility and modality studies, training, and academic research.


Throughout his career, he has held senior positions within DGHS and worked with national and international health-sector organizations and programs, including UNICEF, UNFPA, and tuberculosis control initiatives. He has served as a team leader for health-sector feasibility and policy studies and has contributed to research, program monitoring, institutional coordination, and health-system development.


His academic and research interests include preventive medicine, medical anthropology, public health, community health, health systems and health-sector research. He has supervised postgraduate research and served as an examiner and teacher in MPH, MPhil and related public health programs. He has also authored and co-authored publications on public health, healthcare practices, disease prevention, community health, and health-related social determinants.
